In his artistic practice, Taketo Muroi (Japan, 1978*) examines the conditions of photographic image production in the age of artificial intelligence. His works are not conceived as aesthetic experiments with AI, but rather as analytical image research that reflects perception, materiality, and power structures equally.

Starting with real photography, Muroi develops series of images in which the photographic process gradually detaches itself from its traditional function. In Afterimage , photographic reality is revealed as an unstable state: images oscillate between memory, simulation, and algorithmic transformation. Latent Grains shifts the focus to the material basis of AI images. Through radically repeated denoising, motifs disintegrate in favor of abstract color and grid structures, which become legible as the specific "materiality" of algorithmic image systems.

With The Silent Orders, Muroi extends this media-analytical perspective to the societal level. The series visualizes invisible orders of algorithmic control that shape perception, behavior, and the structuring of meaning without appearing as coercion. Order here manifests itself as normality—calm, functional, seemingly self-evident.

Taketo Murois' work combines media-historical thinking with contemporary AI practice. His works do not mark a break with the history of photography, but rather its consistent continuation under new technical and political conditions. They make visible how images are created today – and how they shape our understanding of reality.
