Latent Grains 28
Latent Grains 28 unfolds as a quiet, almost floating movement between sky and ground. A cool blue dominates the picture plane, overlaid at the top by a violet veil and interrupted at the bottom by a gently rising zone of pink and magenta. The color fields do not appear separate, but rather merge into one another – as if the image were in a state of continuous change.
Compared to other works in the series , Latent Grains 28 is particularly open and breathable. There is no strong density, no dramatic contrast. Instead, a feeling of vastness and floating emerges, almost like an atmospheric state just before transition: dawn or dusk, without a clear temporal location. The colors behave like temperature zones, not like surfaces.
It is precisely here that the serial logic of AI becomes apparent. From the same initial impulse, it does not generate a repetition, but rather a new weighting: less tension, more extension, less graininess, more continuity. The AI does not produce images "of something," but rather states – variations of an internal equilibrium.
In a Japanese interpretation, Latent Grains 28 can be understood as an in-between space: no beginning, no end, but a moment of limbo. Its affinity with Zen is not evident in minimalism, but in letting go of fixed points. Taketo Muroi consciously utilizes this openness. The work makes no assertions; it lingers. It is less a statement than a mood—a silent, chromatic breath within an ongoing process.
