Art, AI and the pioneer Boris Eldagsen: The future of visual art

Born in 1970, German artist Boris Eldagsen's work crosses the boundaries of art, photography and artificial intelligence (AI). With a background in photography, art and philosophy, he combines these disciplines to create unique, AI-generated works that he calls "images". While these images resemble photographs, they belong in a category all their own, far removed from traditional photographic expressions.

Since 2022, Eldagsen has been experimenting intensively with AI technologies, including in- and out-painting, sparking new discussions about the role of technology in art. His works have been exhibited worldwide, and his success at the 2013 Prix Voies Off underlines his position as a visionary artist.

A turning point in his career was the submission of an AI-generated image, "The Electrician," to the Sony World Photography Awards. Although it won in the Creative category, Eldagsen declined the award to encourage debate about the ethical implications of AI in art. The image, from his series **"Pseudomnesia: Fake Memories"**, went viral and is now considered an icon of AI art.

This series, which explores the fusion of memory and fiction, is now offered exclusively as an edition in our webshop. With his concept of "promptography", Eldagsen aims to make a clear distinction between traditional photography and AI art and challenges the art world to think about the future role of technology in the creative process. His works and ideas continue to inspire and raise important questions about the changing art landscape.
