"A memory so fragile, even the face forgets itself."
In MemoryFaces-08, we encounter the moment when identity begins to fade. What was once a face becomes a premonition – cracks crisscross the image like traces of a past that no longer recognizes itself. The woman's gaze strikes us as if from an angle out of time, half-removed, half-present – like a memory in the process of losing itself.
The MERZmory series examines artificially generated memory images in which personal and collective experiences are sedimented. This work is particularly radical: The separation of surface and depth, of real and imagined, creates a double exposure of psyche and algorithm.
A work of art about the slipping away of certainties – poetic, eerie, touching.
