Clint Enns – Babies

Three women, almost like mirror images of each other, sit side by side, holding newborns in their arms. But what at first glance appears to be an archetypal depiction of motherhood falls apart upon closer inspection: The bodies are unadorned, heavy, awkward, full of imperfections. Even the babies themselves appear not as symbols of pure innocence, but as screaming, unfinished beings.

Clint Enns' Babies subverts the iconography of motherhood that has been familiar to us for centuries with idealized Madonna images. Here, there is no divine harmony, no romantic exaggeration—just repetition, heaviness, an almost mechanical arrangement of bodies that evokes coercion rather than intimacy.

Imperfection isn't an accessory, but the real theme. It demonstrates how deeply the cultural conception of birth and care is overshadowed by ideals that bear little relation to reality. Enns lets the AI dream—and the result isn't a sublime image of the mother, but a relentless reflection on the unfinished, the overwhelmed, the human.
