Clint Enns – AI Artist Self Portrait
A man sits naked except for his torn shorts in a sea of garbage, a cigarette tilted in his mouth, his gaze lost in a bowl of unidentifiable food. The space is so crowded that it's almost impossible to distinguish between object, taxidermy, garbage, and memento. A self-portrait that refuses to be heroic.
Clint Enns' AI Artist Self Portrait seems like a parody of the romantic image of the artist: no easel, no studio light, no pose of inspiration. Instead, neglect, excess, and dreariness. Is this the machine's vision of an "artist"—as a lonely, feral collector of his own leftovers? Or is it the brutal truth about the creative subject in the age of algorithms: overwhelmed, lost in the sediment of his data and images?
This portrait is both grotesque and revealing. It shows not the Creator in his glory, but humanity in chaos. A mirror that AI holds up to us – and one that could hardly be more flattering.
